What we do

What we do

We commission health services for local people

As a clinical commissioning group (CCG) we are responsible for commissioning or ‘buying’ healthcare for the people of West Lancashire. We commission:

  • secondary care services
  • community health care services
  • mental health services
  • Primary care (level three co-commissioning as of 1 April 2017)
  • where appropriate, services commissioned jointly with local authority (normally referred to as joint commissioning and incorporating learning disability and mental health services);
  • primary care prescribing

We want to continually improve the quality of healthcare in the local area whilst at the same time ensuring that all local health services deliver value for money for taxpayers.
