Prescription ordering changing for West Lancashire patients

The way you order repeat prescriptions is changing

PATIENTS in West Lancashire will see a change to the way they order repeat prescriptions from next month.

Beginning on Friday 1 April, GP practices will move the process back in-house as the existing Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) service comes to an end.

Patients will be required to contact their practice directly to order repeat prescriptions and practices are in the process of communicating changes to those affected.

People who use the Patient Access website and app are encouraged to continue to do so, and practices can offer support in setting up and using this service.

Dr Peter Gregory, chair of NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Changes to the prescription ordering service are a positive move and will help alleviate some of the issues experienced over recent months.

“Telephone lines do get extremely busy so we would ask, where possible, people use the Patient Access website and app for their repeat prescriptions.

“We hope patients see the benefits as we move to this alternative way of working and thank you for your patience and understanding as we establish the new system.”

Patients should continue to use their existing method of ordering up until 31 March 2022. The POD can be contacted on 01695 588 522 between Monday-Friday (8:30am-11:30am and 2.30pm-4.30pm).

For details on how to order repeat prescriptions from 1 April 2022, visit the CCG website or individual practice websites for more information.
