LOCAL NHS leaders are advising members of the public what health services are available and how to access them.
Dr Peter Gregory, local GP and chair at NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said:
“We know this is an unprecedented time and acknowledge the fear and anxiety many of us will be feeling across West Lancashire. We would like to offer some reassurance to you that we are working tirelessly to get this right and be as prepared as we can. This, however, means delivering services differently to how you are used to. This could be anything from asking you to visit an unfamiliar building, to discussing your health needs over the phone or video, or to not receiving visits as frequently when you may normally rely on them to manage your health and wellbeing”.
GP practices All practices have moved to telephone and video consultation and will only do face to face treatment when necessary. This is likely to be at a different site in West Lancashire. Please continue to access your practice by calling their normal number.
GP Out of Hours If you need to speak to a GP out of your GP practice opening hours, you can access the GP Out of Hours service by calling freephone NHS 111.
Community services Community health services are working closely with GP practices in a blended way to ensure patients are supported during the pandemic. All patients will be screened by phone first. Community service clinics will continue to happen on dedicated sites in Sandy Lane, Burscough and Tarleton for clinics such as midwifery, sexual health and phlebotomy (the latter of which will also continue at Hants Lane).
A&E Children’s A&E in Ormskirk is closed 10pm until 8am daily. Any patients requiring an ambulance will be diverted to Alder Hey. Southport A&E remains open.
Walk in Centre and Urgent Treatment Centre Urgent Treatment Centre in Ormskirk and Walk-in Centre in Skelmersdale will be treating minor injuries only and have moved to booked appointments. Call 01695 402180 first.
Medicine Please only order your repeat prescription if it is due in seven days. Please continue to order your prescriptions in the usual way. Please do not stockpile medicine. Please contact your pharmacy if you are unable to collect your medicine in person.

Stay Home, Protect the NHS, Save Lives ALL patients are reminded to follow national NHS advice around staying at home and what to do is symptoms occur – Stay Home, Protect The NHS, Save Lives.
Stay at home (do not leave your property/garden) for 7 days if you have either:
- A high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back.
- A new continuous cough – this means you’ve started coughing repeatedly.
Stay at home for 14 days if one of the people in your household has the above symptoms of coronavirus. The 14-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house becomes ill.
If you start displaying symptoms within this 14-day period, you need to stay at home for 7 days from when the symptoms appeared. (This applies even if you become ill within an original 14-day isolation period.)
You do need to contact NHS 111 to tell them that you are staying at home, but use the online NHS 111 online coronavirus service if:
- You feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
- your condition gets worse
- your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Only call NHS 111 if you cannot get help from 111 online.
