NHS England (Lancashire & South Cumbria) and NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have been working to put arrangements in place to ensure patients have continued access to primary medical care services.
We are continuing to work to identify a provider to deliver GP services for the patients of Viran Medical Centre from July. We are seeking an interim provider to deliver services on a short-term contract of approximately 12 months while more permanent arrangements are put in place.
We do need to make sure you are aware however, that if we are unable to find suitable provider, we would have no alternative but to close the practice and transfer patients to another practice in the area. This would be a last resort and would be considered only if there were no other options available to us.
We have explored a number of different options to secure premises and propose to install a Care Quality Commission approved, medical grade temporary unit in the car park at Tarleton Health Centre, approximately one mile away from the current practice premises. We are currently working with West Lancashire Borough Council to secure the necessary planning permission.
What does this mean for patients?
We would like to assure you that all services will continue as normal at Viran Medical Centre in Hesketh Bank until June 30 and you will be able to make appointments and request prescriptions in the normal way. You do not need to register with another practice.
Dr Hindle will continue to provide primary care services to the patient group until Friday 30 June.
If you require urgent access to primary care out of hours service over the weekend of July 1 and 2 you be able to contact the NHS 111 service, which will direct you to the nearest service. Your call will be free of charge.
From Monday 3 July, you will receive primary care medical services from another provider – this may be an interim provider until permanent arrangements are put in place.
The medical grade mobile unit is approved by the Care Quality Commission for use as a GP practice premises. It has three consultation rooms, a waiting room big enough to seat 12 people and enough space for all practice staff and medical records.
Subject to a suitable provider being found, the practice will operate from the temporary unit at Tarleton Health Centre from Monday, July 3. This this will be a temporary premises arrangement and will not be the permanent solution.
Patients registered at Viran will receive an update directly and the practice is in the process of getting this sent out.
