RESIDENTS in West Lancashire are encouraged to come along to a special FREE lung health event, which is being organised by NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), the British Lung Foundation (BLF), Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust and the Breathe Easy Group West Lancashire.
The ‘Breathe Easy’ event, which will take place on Monday 20 March 2017, at the Toby Carvery, County Road in Ormskirk from 1pm – 3pm, is open to any West Lancashire resident, who is living with a respiratory health condition, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and bronchiectasis, as well as any residents who want to learn more about good lung health.
On the day, there will be guest speakers, including Dr Sacha Youzgin, a respiratory consultant from the Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust, who will discuss how residents living with lung disease can look after their health, and Mel Reardon, a clinical specialist physiotherapist, who is also based at the Hospital Trust. There will also be the opportunity to take part in a ‘Power of Music’ taster session and the chance to meet members of the local Breathe Easy group, as well as local health care professionals, including West Lancs CVS.
Sandra Bonner, an advanced respiratory nurse specialist for West Lancashire, said:
“Respiratory health conditions are typically complex and something that people live with for a long time, therefore events like this are so important, as they help people to understand how to manage their condition and symptoms.
“Often those patients living with a respiratory health condition can face long stays in hospital or admissions to A&E, which could be avoided if they knew how to manage their condition better themselves, in the comfort of their own home.
“This event is aimed specifically at residents living with a respiratory health condition, but I would also recommend that anyone with an interest in good lung health come along. You don’t need to register in advance, so just pop along on the day.”
