Alzheimer’s Society staff and volunteers in West Lancashire will be out in force this month encouraging residents to ‘try something new’ during Dementia Awareness Week.
Throughout the week, people from West Lancashire will also be able to take advantage of a series of awareness-raising initiatives where there will be an opportunity to hear from staff about the services being offered by Alzheimer’s Society locally and for advice about the disease.
To start the week off on Monday 18th May we are holding a Tea and Talk event for West Lancashire Care Home staff at Skelmersdale Library from 10am to 12pm. Offering local care home staff the opportunity to come along and share information on good practice when supporting people with dementia.
On Tuesday 19th May from 12pm to 2pm anyone who is affected by dementia can join us at Brookside on Aughton Street in Ormskirk for our Cream Tea and Tai Chi event, where you can meet our local team enjoy a cream tea and have a go at Tai Chi.
Then to round the week off on Thursday 21st May from 10am to 3pm why not join us at the Guide Hut on Moorgate in Ormskirk for our ‘Try Something New’ day where you will have the opportunity to try some new activities designed for people with dementia and their carers including Art, Drama, Reading and a Singing for the Brain session?
