Low uptake for bowel cancer screening

Low uptake for bowel cancer screening

According to figures released this week from  national charity Beating Bowel Cancer, only 58% of the 60-74-year-old age group took part in screening in England during 2012-15, with that number decreasing in different regions.

West Lancashire CCG is carrying out some local activity to raise awareness of this issue and highlight the important of screening. Bowel cancer is the UK’s second biggest cancer killer. Screening can identify the signs of bowel cancer early and prevent complications in the future. 90% cases can be treated successfully if spotted early.

To show your support in raising awareness of bowel cancer, please download and display the CCG’s bowel cancer posters.

60–74 year olds can request a screening kit by calling 0800 707 60 60 or visiting www.cancerscreening.nhs.uk/bowel
