With not long to go until Christmas, those with long term health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, lung and heart disease are being reminded not to leave it too late to get their repeat prescriptions. Many GP practices will have limited opening hours between Christmas and New Year, which means some people may struggle if they run out of their medication.
A spokesperson for NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), said:
“Our advice is for everyone to check they are up to date with their medication, and if necessary contact your GP for a repeat prescription or for a check-up.”
NHS West Lancashire CCG is also urging the local community to be prepared in case of illness over the winter period. Every household should have some stocks of:
- Cough medicine
- An antacid for indigestion
- Throat lozenges
- Plasters/bandages for any cuts or scrapes
NHS West Lancashire CCG, along with other NHS leaders across Merseyside is supporting the Examine Your Options campaign, which signposts the West Lancashire communities to local health services.
