NHS West Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is supporting Public Health Lancashire’s “Conversations about alcohol” campaign.
Public Health Lancashire which is run by Lancashire County Council has launched a new film entitled ‘Binged’. The film which is being launched across Lancashire, shares the experiences of binge drinkers of all ages as well as the experiences of emergency services who have to deal with impact of binge drinking. The film can be located on Facebook at: www.facebook.com/bingedfilm.
Locally, the campaign message ” Conversations about alcohol” is being spread to help reduce the huge impact of alcohol misuse on individuals and communities across the county.
Dr Bapi Biswas, local GP and board member of West Lancashire CCG said: “Many people across West Lancashire enjoy a drink or two, but what can start so innocently can easily spiral out of control. It’s so easy to start off by relying on alcohol as a handy way of unwinding after a stressful week – or by having a few drinks with friends, but before long, drinking habits can become an issue”.
“Encouraging people to talk about alcohol consumption is imperative to us tackling this national problem. A good conversation starter is the drinkaware unit calculator. For many people it’s quite hard to work out if they are drinking sensibly, and using it you can tell if you are drinking over the recommended amounts, and also how many calories you are consuming”.
The drinkaware calculator can be found at: https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/understand-your-drinking/unit-calculator.
